C.D. was one of several dogs rescued from a compound where a dog “hoarder” kept 112 dogs in unthinkable conditions. C.D. was living in a very small kennel with 2 other dogs and no human interaction for THREE YEARS. He became so stressed by his captivity that he chewed off is own tail, leaving him with an uneven stump. We are giving C.D. medical care, grooming, and much needed affection so that he will realize that his former torturous existance is over. With some good nutrition and proper care, C.D. is going to be a beautiful boy again. Dogs like C.D. are truly the reason that we have a rescue safety net. This incredible creature has so much love to give and so much heart, but without GSROC, he would have been destined to his inhumane existance for the rest of his life. Anyone who understands the nature of shepherds knows that to keep them away from their people is a torture worse than death for such a devoted, loyal breed.

C.D. gets along nicely with dogs his own size and he is responding very well to patient instruction. His rescue required our volunteers to drive 6 hours, but it was worth every minute to get this boy safe.

We want C.D. to get an extra, extra special home to help make up for the years that he lost. Could you be the lucky person or family to have this devoted companion join your pack?

To arrange to meet C.D., please complete the online application and then contact Shawngsdrescue@aol.com for more details.

Adoption Application If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, you may submit an application online or via fax. If you choose to send a fax, please download the Adoption Application here in PDF format; fill it out and sign it. You can fax it to us at 714-773-9430.

Home Visit Prior to any dog going home, we do require a home visit to ensure that your environment is safe and secure. Once your home has been approved, the adoption can move forward.

Adoption Donation

  • Adult GSDs: $395
  • Purebred GSD Puppies: $495
  • Mixed GSD Puppies: $395
  • Special Senior-to-Senior Adoptions: $295
This donation is tax-deductible as allowed by law and helps to offset the costs that we have incurred for the dog’s care and housing during his or her stay with our group. The minimum adoption donation does not entirely cover the investments that we have made in the dogs, so if you are in a position to give more, we would be honored to receive your additional donation. All adoption donations go directly toward the needs of our dogs.

All dogs adopted through GSROC are spayed or neutered, current on their vaccines and de-wormed. Because the minimum Adoption Donation rarely covers the costs associated with each dog, we ask that adopters who are in a position to give additional funds do so at their discretion.
