Dixie is a very sweet gentle girl with everyone that she meets. When given treats, she takes them very softly with her lips.
Poor Dixie had a rope on her neck when she was found as a stray, and the vet said she has an indentation around her neck, appearing as though she had at one time worn a collar that was far too tight. Our vet thinks Dixie is between 2 -3 yrs old. She currently weighs in at 61 lbs but she should be around 75 lbs when she blossoms with some good care. Right now, her coat is rather brittle and dry, but we are working on restoring her to her former beauty!
While Dixie gets along with other large dogs, it seems as though she would rather just be with her person. She loves all adults, male and female. We have not tested her yet with children yet, but we suspect that she would like older kids. Our experience tells us that she gets a little too rambunctious for small ones. Dixie’s favorite place is sitting at your feet. She walks nicely on a leash and loves to ride in the car. She figured out the doggie door in her foster home almost immediately. She is good at “sit” but would do well with a basic obedience course so that her intelligence can shine through.
Dixie’s ideal home would be with someone who is home most of the day, preferably with someone who can shower her with the attention and affection that she obviously has never had in her past life. She is housetrained and knows that food on the counters is off limits!

Home Visit Prior to any dog going home, we do require a home visit to ensure that your environment is safe and secure. Once your home has been approved, the adoption can move forward.
Adoption Donation In light of the rising vet care costs associated with Giardia tests and boarding at vets, we are raising our adoption donation for adult GSDs to $395.00 starting on July 1, 2021
The adoption donations for other dogs will remain the same — $475.00 for purebred puppies, $375 for mixed puppies. (On a case by case basis, e.g. senior for senior, we will place a senior for $275.00 with a senior.)
This donation is tax-deductible as allowed by law and helps to offset the costs that we have incurred for the dog’s care and housing during his or her stay with our group. The minimum adoption donation does not entirely cover the investments that we have made in the dogs, so if you are in a position to give more, we would be honored to receive your additional donation. All adoption donations go directly toward the needs of our dogs.
All dogs adopted through GSROC are spayed or neutered, current on their vaccines and de-wormed. Because the minimum Adoption Donation rarely covers the costs associated with each dog, we ask that adopters who are in a position to give additional funds do so at their discretion.
