Pepper waited and waited for his family to come for him but no one did. He has just arrived so we will learn more about him soon. Currently, he is being treated for an upper respiratory infection and an injured paw. We are awaiting the veterinarian’s report on Pepper’s leg. Pepper is a purebred boy. Like all puppies, he will need training and consistency as he grows. He is the perfect age for a puppy obedience class.

1/13/06 UPDATE
We are devastated to learn that Pepper has a significant heart murmur–one that is definitely threatening his life. We are committed to doing everything that our resources allow for this little guy, including having him evaluated by a cardiac specialist to see if he is a good candidate for surgery. Please help us to raise the funds that we need to provide Pepper with the very best care available. You can go to our DONATIONS page and make a donation in any amount for our sweet Pepper. Timing is critical!

Update 01-27-06

Pepper has been diagnosed with Subaortic stenosis , which is a genetic and congenital heart condition of dogs, meaning that it is present at birth and it can be inherited. This is a very frustrating condition to be identified in this sweet puppy because the future is bleak and the chance for long term survival is low. There are no procedures or medications that can help his condition. Our Vet does say that there is a chance he can live into middle age, so we will keep thinking good thoughts and continue monitoring Pepper.

Pepper is safe in a warm foster home right now. He has 4 large female canine playmates who he adores. He is well behaved, smart, and as cute as can be. He really is looking for a very special forever home. One that understands that no matter how long Pepper has with us, every second is a blessing to have just known this sweet soul. A forever family that has a heart big enough for two.

Pepper invites you to take a peek at his good buddy Huggie Bear, who is also looking for a forever home. Huggie Bear is a handicapped puppy, too!

Home Visit Prior to any dog going home, we do require a home visit to ensure that your environment is safe and secure. Once your home has been approved, the adoption can move forward.

Adoption Donation In light of the rising vet care costs associated with Giardia tests and boarding at vets, we are raising our adoption donation for adult GSDs to $395.00 starting on July 1, 2021

The adoption donations for other dogs will remain the same — $475.00 for purebred puppies, $375 for mixed puppies. (On a case by case basis, e.g. senior for senior, we will place a senior for $275.00 with a senior.)

This donation is tax-deductible as allowed by law and helps to offset the costs that we have incurred for the dog’s care and housing during his or her stay with our group. The minimum adoption donation does not entirely cover the investments that we have made in the dogs, so if you are in a position to give more, we would be honored to receive your additional donation. All adoption donations go directly toward the needs of our dogs.

All dogs adopted through GSROC are spayed or neutered, current on their vaccines and de-wormed. Because the minimum Adoption Donation rarely covers the costs associated with each dog, we ask that adopters who are in a position to give additional funds do so at their discretion.
