Rocky is 6 yrs old and was originally bought from a breeder. That owner was moving and was going to dump him at the shelter as we see too often. The second owner fell on some financial hardship and had to relocate to an apartment that did not allow poor Rocky. Then, the 3rd owner was unable to provide the type of leadership that Rocky needed, so he was returned to us. Needles to say, all these changes have been bewildering to Rocky.
Rocky is a smart and sensitive shepherd. Because of all these changes in his life, we have promised him that his next home will be his final and forever, loving home. Rocky walks well on leash, is house trained, and knows his basic commands well: sit, paw/shake and down.
Rocky has no apparent health problems and weighs a healthy 100 lbs. He loves car rides and squeaky balls are his favorite! He also enjoys swimming and trying to “catch” water coming out of a hose.
Rocky is not too fond of kitties, so a feline free environment would be best. Rocky enjoys playing with other friendly dogs that are a part of his “pack” and has even been with small dogs, like the neighborhood Bishon. Although, Rocky would prefer to be the alpha dog in the family.
Rocky is currently in a foster home, where he plays with 2 other friendly, male german shepherd dogs. He is responsive and needs a person that can show him confident, quiet leadership. Because of his sensitivity, we do not recommend him for children under 12.

Home Visit Prior to any dog going home, we do require a home visit to ensure that your environment is safe and secure. Once your home has been approved, the adoption can move forward.
Adoption Donation In light of the rising vet care costs associated with Giardia tests and boarding at vets, we are raising our adoption donation for adult GSDs to $395.00 starting on July 1, 2021
The adoption donations for other dogs will remain the same — $475.00 for purebred puppies, $375 for mixed puppies. (On a case by case basis, e.g. senior for senior, we will place a senior for $275.00 with a senior.)
This donation is tax-deductible as allowed by law and helps to offset the costs that we have incurred for the dog’s care and housing during his or her stay with our group. The minimum adoption donation does not entirely cover the investments that we have made in the dogs, so if you are in a position to give more, we would be honored to receive your additional donation. All adoption donations go directly toward the needs of our dogs.
All dogs adopted through GSROC are spayed or neutered, current on their vaccines and de-wormed. Because the minimum Adoption Donation rarely covers the costs associated with each dog, we ask that adopters who are in a position to give additional funds do so at their discretion.
