Sophie Grace is another sad story that sounds like a broken record. Unfortunately, what is really broken is this poor dog. Sophie Grace was turned into the shelter by her owners because “they didn’t have time for her”. As they were signing away her life to a scary shelter, they told the Animal Control Officer how they tried to breed her with their male shepherd. The breeding did not work, so they just treated her like a piece of trash and dumped her at the shelter.
Sophie Grace waited for weeks for her family to come back for her. When she ran out of time we got the call asking for our help. We could not take her when they first called as we are already swamped with dogs, and asked them to please give her a few more days until we could find the room. Finally we were able to commit to taking her. The day she was to be spayed and ready for pick up, we got a call saying we could not adopt her. When the volunteer asked why, they said “she isn’t healthy”. When questioned further, they told us that Sophie Grace had became very sick. They were going to euthanize her but after pleading with the Shelter and realizing we wanted to help poor Sophie Grace, they agreed to let us take her.
Sophie Grace was literally within hours of being euthanized. This poor girl was healthy when she was brought into the Shelter. Like many dogs, after waiting so long and being depressed and stressed in the shelter environment, her immune system gave up and she became very ill overnight. Our Volunteer dropped everything and drove the long distance to pick her up and rush her to the Vet for immediate treatment.
Now that we have her, Sophie Grace needs your help with medical expenses. Her temperature reached 105.4 and she has a very bad case of pneumonia. She is currently fighting for her life thru IV’s and very strong medications. If you can help this gorgeous girl by donating money toward her medical expenses, it would be deeply appreciated.
She was tossed away by the only family she knew but we’re hoping she will pull through and find her forever home.
Sophie Grace is 1 year old and needs some obedience training. She gets along with other dogs and children. Sophie Grace knows a few commands but she is still a teenager with lots of energy!

Home Visit Prior to any dog going home, we do require a home visit to ensure that your environment is safe and secure. Once your home has been approved, the adoption can move forward.
Adoption Donation In light of the rising vet care costs associated with Giardia tests and boarding at vets, we are raising our adoption donation for adult GSDs to $395.00 starting on July 1, 2021
The adoption donations for other dogs will remain the same — $475.00 for purebred puppies, $375 for mixed puppies. (On a case by case basis, e.g. senior for senior, we will place a senior for $275.00 with a senior.)
This donation is tax-deductible as allowed by law and helps to offset the costs that we have incurred for the dog’s care and housing during his or her stay with our group. The minimum adoption donation does not entirely cover the investments that we have made in the dogs, so if you are in a position to give more, we would be honored to receive your additional donation. All adoption donations go directly toward the needs of our dogs.
All dogs adopted through GSROC are spayed or neutered, current on their vaccines and de-wormed. Because the minimum Adoption Donation rarely covers the costs associated with each dog, we ask that adopters who are in a position to give additional funds do so at their discretion.
