I'm Athletic!

Spikey (as his friend’s call him) is a smart, sweet, focused, protective, beautiful young boy with lots of personality. His watchdog traits are uncanny. He is a very traditional male shepherd, aware of every queue and looking for human commands to guide him. He has very nice house manners. He’s very playful and silly yet calm for his 18-22 months. Spikey is housebroken.

Spikey is responsive to commands and learns incredibly quick. Spikey was abandoned at a vet office in August and due to legalities, he just saw the light of day recently. He is friendly with everyone once he is introduced and is protective of his pack, therefore he is not recommended for a family with small children. He loves the outdoors and recently did fantastic off leash in the snow of the sierras hiking remote trails.

He is easy to handle, but will be best with an experienced owner to guide Spikey. He could is athletic and fit, yet he is mellow and enjoys his toys next to your feet in the home just as much. If allowed, he wants to lay on the couch with you to cuddle and share his toy. He has no food or toy aggression and would probably do better with another playful dog around. He is fine meeting any dog during his walks and just cautious of any stranger approaching his owner as he wants to protect his pack.

His foster home has a cat and chicken, but he is not trusted with them. He just needs a little guidance. Everyone that meets Spikey loves him and is attracted to his friendly intelligence. He attaches to his owner very easy and also is crate trained.

Spikey’s ideal family would want a smart more protective dog, who is very aware of all goings on, affectionate, playful, wants to interact with them (he’s a cuddler and loves physical attention!) enjoys walks or any outdoor activity and is willing to just show him what is expected to him. He is staying with a foster home and is learning quickly so stay tuned for updates.

Home Visit Prior to any dog going home, we do require a home visit to ensure that your environment is safe and secure. Once your home has been approved, the adoption can move forward.

Adoption Donation In light of the rising vet care costs associated with Giardia tests and boarding at vets, we are raising our adoption donation for adult GSDs to $395.00 starting on July 1, 2021

The adoption donations for other dogs will remain the same — $475.00 for purebred puppies, $375 for mixed puppies. (On a case by case basis, e.g. senior for senior, we will place a senior for $275.00 with a senior.)

This donation is tax-deductible as allowed by law and helps to offset the costs that we have incurred for the dog’s care and housing during his or her stay with our group. The minimum adoption donation does not entirely cover the investments that we have made in the dogs, so if you are in a position to give more, we would be honored to receive your additional donation. All adoption donations go directly toward the needs of our dogs.

All dogs adopted through GSROC are spayed or neutered, current on their vaccines and de-wormed. Because the minimum Adoption Donation rarely covers the costs associated with each dog, we ask that adopters who are in a position to give additional funds do so at their discretion.
