The KOGS ( = Kids + Dogs) pilot program completed last Saturday in a wonderful event thanks to the hard work of Your Dog Trainer, the kids of Santa Ana Day School and all the GSROC and Inner City Outings volunteers. KOGS combined kids from a truancy school via Sierra Club’s Inner City Outings with our dogs in great need of some exercise, training and attention. Students came twice weekly, including one by bus each week, for classroom lessons on spaying, the horrors of dog fighting, and population control in addition to taking weekly field trips to locations such as the shelter, vet and zoo. Ranger, Scout, Jehtro and Eve were taught proper pet behavior in addition to being groomed twice per week. The results for both kids and dogs were amazing. The outdoors, fun and love were shared by all – two and four legged!
