THE GREAT K9 STEAK OUT = FUN WELL DONE!
Saturday, Nov 29,2014

More than 40 orphaned German Shepherds enjoyed a home-cooked Thanksgiving feast, thanks to the love and talent of our amazing volunteers. The dogs dined on steak that was diced in cubes for easy consumption, with side dishes of sweet potatoes, baked potatoes and green beans, finished off with a crunchy biscuit for good measure. Volunteers served the dogs who were eagerly waiting in pre-assigned “seating” on this beautiful day in the sunshine. The purpose? To show the dogs that even though they don’t have their own forever families yet, they are surrounded by the love of the GSROC rescue family at this special time of giving.

We enlisted the help of our wonderful OC business community, which immediately came to the rescue. Sun Meat Company of Fullerton donated the delicious steaks for the occasion, while Early Bird Cafe in Yorba Linda pre-cooked the meat. Local dog agility friends at Jump Start Sports of Yorba Linda provided a beautiful setting that was peacefully perfect for dining “on the green”.

While some dogs pounced on their food and gobbled it, others made us laugh with their dining techniques. Aria immediately topped her bowl and elected to eat off the grass. Rory surveyed all of the offerings and picked out the steak cubes, leaving her vegetables behind! Lexi and Zeus had a slightly heated “discussion” about whose plate looked more savory, but volunteers assured them that there was plenty for everyone on this lovely autumn day.

We were delighted with the success of this inaugural event and plan to make it an annual GSROC tradition!
