Our first annual “Celebration of Compassion” to benefit our orphan shepherds was successful beyond our highest hopes! More than 150 animal lovers attended the wine tasting event at the beautiful L’Opera Restaurant in Long Beach, sampling wonderful vintages from 14 wineries. An out-of-this-world Silent Auction featured an incredible assortment of unique items ranging from autographed items, to golf clubs and resort getaways, to original works of art. There was even a “What’s Under The Kilt?” gift package that included a performance by a professional bagpiper! Guests nibbled on imported cheeses and shopped for bargains while a harpist played lovely background music. A lot of wine was poured, a lot of wine was sold, and a lot of wine was consumed–all to benefit the shepherds of course! The final totals aren’t in yet, but we know that we will be able to pay for many vet bills as a result of this outpouring of support (and outpouring of wine).
The success of our event would not have been possible without the generous and sincere support of the entire team at L’Opera Restaurant; the many devoted animal lovers who attended, and of course, our very own team of incredible “ROC” star volunteers who pulled together all of the details and made it look effortless. If you missed this event, you missed something really special, so we hope to see you at a future fundraiser for GSROC! Will there be a Wines, Woofs & Wishes II? We sure hope so!
