Katie II was rescued from an a crowded animal shelter when her time there ran out. She is a gorgeous black and tan girl who was mislabled as a shepherd mix by animal control staff. Thankfully, GSROC was able to pluck her out of the shelter just in time. Katie II has the biggest, brownest, sweetest eyes! She has a very endearing habit of wanting to hold your hand…she’s not obnoxious about it, but it’s obvious that she takes comfort from it so we let her show us her affection.
UPDATE: 12/23 Katie II has been keeping a very big secret! Our boarding facility called us just before Christmas to tell us that they found a healthy newborn male puppy in Katie’s kennel! Our girl was so skinny that we didn’t even know that she was pregnant! We rushed Katie II to our vet where she delivered 2 more healthy puppy boys! We’re happy to report that momma and puppies are doing great (but our volunteers are still recovering from shock). It is too soon to tell if the puppies are purebred shepherds or not, but it’s not likely. They will be ready for adoption in early March.
UPDATE 1/20/06 The puppies are 4 weeks old now and starting to be friskier. We think they are mixed with something large–possibly a malamute because they have some white markings. One puppy has 4 white socks on! The puppies will be ready to go in approximately three weeks. They will be altered before they are go to their new homes.
UPDATE 2/24/06 All of Katie’s puppies have found their happy endings, so now it’s Katie’s turn! She needs a home with someone who is a good leader.
Katie II is very strong and very agile. We think that she would do very well in dog agility or another active pursuit. She is extremely intuitive and she doesn’t miss a thing that’s going on in her surroundings. She is not good with small dogs.
