Mickey’s owner could no longer care for him but shared his background with us.
Mickey is an all-around fabulous dog. Everyone that meets him, likes him immediately. Mickey, too, likes everyone and everything, whether of the human or four-legged kind. Mickey has an excellent temperament around children. He is patient and loving and was raised with grandchildren in his former home.
Mickey loves to play with other dogs. He plays with a lot of enthusiasm, so we are not recommending him for a home with small dogs, for they may get overwhelmed. Mickey has shown some gentle curiosity around cats, so we suspect he could learn to get along with them.
Mickey is currently in a foster home where he’s getting the love and attention he deserves. He’s done a great job adjusting to the people and dogs in his foster home. His foster mom reports that he gets super excited at any prospect to go for rides in the car, no matter how long the trip. Just shake your keys or put on your jacket, and he’ll be by the door in a flash.
Mickey is housebroken and knows his basic commands. He knows “sit” and “down,” retrieves a tennis ball, and likes to shake hands. To show off his impish sense of humor, he’s been known to take shoes and other “forbidden” items and drop them with a bang so you’ll come and check out what he’s got. He tells us this is just a ploy to get some attention. His foster mom gladly obliges.
Common to the breed, Mickey has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. You wouldn’t know it, though. He plays with abandon and doesn’t show any signs of pain or discomfort. However, he may need hip dyplasia surgery at some point in his life. Of course, proper nutrition, exercise and joint supplements are a great way to help maintain healthy joints.
