Do you place dogs outside of Southern California?
Yes, we place dogs throughout California as well as parts of Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon. All adopters are required to come to Southern California to meet their potential dog and are responsible for the transport of their new dog to his or her new home.
Where do your German Shepherds come from?
About 50% of our dogs come from owners who can no longer keep them, while the other 50% are rescued from animal shelters when they are at risk of euthanasia.
Are the rescue dogs trained?
Some of our German Shepherds come with basic training. However, we recommend adopters enroll their new companions in a basic obedience class to help reinforce positive behavior and create a strong bond.
Are all rescued dogs abused or sick?
No, this is a common misconception. While a few of our dogs may have experienced neglect or abuse, most are surrendered due to lifestyle changes. Many are happy, healthy, and simply in need of a second chance.
Can I adopt an unaltered (not spayed or neutered) dog?
No. All dogs adopted through GSROC are spayed or neutered before placement. This policy reflects our commitment to ending pet overpopulation and promoting responsible pet ownership.
Do you offer reduced adoption donation fees?
We do not reduce adoption donation amounts. If the fee is a financial burden, we encourage prospective adopters to reconsider, as German Shepherds can be costly to care for. Financial stability is key to providing a loving, long-term home.
Are German Shepherd Dogs aggressive?
No. German Shepherds are loyal, intelligent, and loving companions. While they can be naturally protective, with proper training and leadership, they become well-mannered members of the family. Learn more about the German Shepherd breed here.

How are donations used?

Are there rescue groups for other dog breeds?
Yes! Many dog breeds have dedicated rescue groups. Use an internet search to find a rescue specializing in the breed you’re interested in. Also, don’t overlook mixed-breed dogs at shelters—they can make wonderful, loving pets with great temperaments.
